Privacy policy – Basketball betting
Readers of basketball odds guides give up little personal data, and the processing is confined to what a site of this kind needs. The UK GDPR and the Data Protection Act 2018 provide the rules, and this policy carries out the information duty of Article 13 UK GDPR.
Controller and contact
Under Article 4(7) UK GDPR the controller is whoever operates this site. Name, address and e-mail address appear at basketballoddsuk.com, and that channel also takes any question on personal data.
Information collected
Each request for a page leaves a server log entry with the IP address, date and time, requested address, transferred data volume, referring page and browser type. Security and abuse detection are the reasons, and after 90 days the entries are deleted or shortened to the point where no individual is identifiable. A reader who writes in leaves a name, an e-mail address and the message, which are used to reply and nothing else. Accounts, deposits and bets do not exist here, so no payment details or identity documents are taken.
Bases for processing
Server logs, abuse prevention and the answering of messages are justified by legitimate interests in running a secure and working site (Article 6(1)(f) UK GDPR). Non-essential cookies and audience measurement depend on consent (Article 6(1)(a) UK GDPR with regulation 6 of PECR) and start only once it exists. Withdrawal is possible at any time and does not affect earlier processing (Article 7(3)). Decisions are never automated and no profiling is carried out.
Disclosure and transfers
Data is not sold. Processors working on instruction for hosting, content delivery and e-mail receive it (Article 28 UK GDPR), as do public authorities when the law requires. A transfer outside the United Kingdom needs adequacy regulations for the destination or appropriate safeguards, for example the International Data Transfer Agreement or the UK Addendum (Article 44 onwards).
Storage periods
Server logs stay for up to 90 days. Correspondence stays until the matter is closed, plus the time needed to deal with any claims. Sending a message is optional, but a reply is impossible without the data it carries.
Rights of individuals
Access (Article 15), rectification (Article 16), erasure (Article 17), restriction (Article 18) and portability (Article 20) can be requested, and objection to processing based on legitimate interests is possible (Article 21). Requests are answered without undue delay and within one month of receipt; under Article 12(3) the period can be extended by a further two months.
Supervision
The Information Commissioner’s Office (ICO) is the supervisory authority. Anyone who believes their data has been processed in breach of data protection law may complain to it (Article 77 UK GDPR).
